Our Research & Technology division partners with innovator companies in pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals and animal health areas to develop innovative, cost effective and safe processes for NCEs, generic molecules as well as provide life cycle management for existing molecules for global clients.
Hikal has an impeccable track record of delivering active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), active ingredients (AIs) and intermediates to global clients with outmost confidentiality. Our facilities are built to meet the specific needs of clients and stringent requirements of the United States, European, and Japanese markets.
Our comprehensive environment, health and safety (EHS) policy ensures that the interests of all constituents are safeguarded. Processes are developed at our R&T centre with significant focus on process understanding with a view to increasing yield and throughput as also on optimization of effluent treatability processes. We use statistical analysis tools like DOE for optimizing process development. Strong mechanistic understanding and use of process simulation tools render scaleup facile and efficient. We try to imbibe the 12 principles of Green Chemistry during the process development. We are the only company from India that is part of the ACS GCPRI (American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Pharma Roundtable Institute), the activities of which reflect its member's shared belief that the pursuit of green chemistry and engineering is imperative for business and environmental sustainability. Additionally, we also focus on waste treatability as part of our development projects and ensure that it is a part of the lab report before scaleup.
Our research & technology capabilities blend expertise in chemistry with advanced facilities.

Hikal’s Kilo lab(s) in Pune allows scale-up of processes at our R&T labs and transfer of technology from global clients using advanced facilities:
Hikal is in the process of installing a pilot scale PP and FBR in R&T that should be operational sometime in 2020. Hikal is in the process of installing a pilot scale FBR in R&T for development & optimization of the process.
Hikal gives utmost importance to Safety while development of processes at R&T. We use below tools (in-house or outsourced) to assess safety of the developed processes:
Two continuous processes have been commercialized Hikal gives importance to update the knowledge using the different search engines/ tools during product development as follows :
